Chin and Cheekbone Aesthetics
Prominent structures such as the chin and cheekbones are an important part of facial aesthetics. In youth, the face often resembles a triangle; over the years it becomes more oval and tends toward a rectangular shape. The perceived strength of a face is largely determined by the strength of the chin and cheekbones. Over time, facial tissues tend to descend under the influence of gravity. The stronger the cheekbones and jawbone, the slower this process becomes. With Aesthetic Plastic Surgery , you can define your facial contours to achieve a stronger face and, as a result, a more vibrant, more youthful appearance.
The jaw and cheekbones play a major role in the face’s aesthetic proportions and, consequently, in a person’s appearance. They are always taken into account when evaluating facial proportions. In some patients, combining with other surgeries is essential to achieve better outcomes. For example, in a patient with a small chin and a retrusive chin tip, no matter how beautiful a rhinoplasty you perform, it will not stand out unless you also address the chin; it may go unnoticed. One of the fundamental principles in aesthetic surgery is harmony, both within each feature and across the whole. Therefore, in such a patient, the length and forward projection of the chin tip in the profile view should be brought to ideal proportions. There are three methods to augment the chin and cheekbones.
Augmentation with Implants
Implants placed in the area to be augmented provide a permanent effect. In particular, Medpor or silicone implants are used for this purpose. An implant of the desired size and shape is inserted through an incision made inside the mouth. Sometimes the implants are fixed with small screws.
Augmentation with implants is performed under general anesthesia. It takes about 1 hour on average. Since the incisions are made inside the mouth, no visible scars remain. You may be discharged the same day, or at most kept in the hospital for one night. The stitches are absorbable and do not need to be removed. Particularly during the first 3–5 days, you should pay attention to oral hygiene and consume soft and liquid foods.
Augmentation with Fillers
This is a method that can be performed in the office using ready-to-use filler products. It is applied directly as injections to the area where augmentation is desired. The patient resumes daily activities right away. Depending on the characteristics of the filler used, the results last 12–24 months. It can be used as a temporary trial period for individuals who are hesitant about a permanent procedure, have concerns about the outcome, are afraid of surgery, or have time constraints.
Augmentation with Fat Grafting
Fat tissue harvested from the body by liposuction is processed and injected into the area where augmentation and contouring are desired. It is considered an alternative when only a small amount of augmentation is desired.
