Facelift Surgery
The face, neck, and back of the hands are among the primary areas that reveal a person’s age as they grow older. Our face is the most important indicator of our age. Over time, losses occur in the facial region and positional changes and sagging develop due to the effects of gravity. These effects become particularly noticeable after the age of 30. With facelift surgery, the process is reversed by intervening in the entire face or a specific portion of it. After this surgery, your face achieves a youthful appearance, but the aging process continues with a 5-10 year advancement. How much younger you will look after surgery depends on you and the extent of the procedure performed. The patient’s skin structure, genetic characteristics, bone structure, and habits (smoking, alcohol, diet, psychology, etc.) are important factors in the personalized nature of the results.
How is Facelift Surgery Performed?
With this surgery, excess tissue is removed through incisions made in front of the ear, behind the ear, or within the hairline according to the area that needs attention, sagging structures are lifted, and positioned in their ideal location. Since the surgical scars remain in the hairline and/or ear fold areas, they do not cause problems. If removal of bags around the eyes is desired at the same time, eyelid surgery can be performed together with facelift surgery or as a separate procedure. Forehead lift, double chin liposuction, tissue injections, facial contour modifications, etc. can be recommended together with facelift surgery or as separate procedures. In the facial region, improvement can be achieved to a certain extent with non-surgical or mini-surgical interventions. However, beyond a certain level, I recommend either accepting your current state or choosing surgery. Because procedures performed beyond a certain level will not satisfy you. The money you spend and the pain you endure will be wasted.
It is a surgery performed under general anesthesia. It takes an average of 3-5 hours. There is no excessive bleeding during and after surgery. In rare cases where there is a risk of bleeding, drains are placed for safety purposes.
Recovery Process after Facelift Surgery
The patient stays in the hospital for 1 day, drains are removed, and they are discharged. Swelling and bruising may occur in the early period. Recovery is faster with creams that are started before surgery and regular ice application afterward. Your stitches are removed after one week and you can return to work. After four weeks, you can engage in heavy sports activities.
